How
to carry out a Patch Test for New Products
Like all cosmetics
whether natural or not, if you are introducing a new product there is
still a possibility of an allergic reaction even to the most natural
of ingredients
I
have met people who are allergic to pure lavender essential oil, tea
tree essential oil and some even Aloe Vera, even though they are
ingredients/oils with soothing properties! Remember, everyone is an
individual.
It
is always advisable to carry out a patch test prior to using a new
product, especially for sensitive skin, or skin prone to eczema or
psoriasis.
- Place
a small amount of product on the inside of the elbow.
- Cover with a plaster
(leave open if you are allergic to plasters) and leave for 24
hours
- If your skin were to
react, you would normally see this within 24 hours of application,
do not use the product, stop immediately.
As with all allergies, it is very
difficult to pinpoint directly the ingredient that disagrees with you,
it is very much a process of elimination.
